The Harvest of Trivia with Christopher Penczak

Christopher will lead participants into an exploration of a new experience of harvest celebration, focusing upon the mysteries of light, darkness, and lightning, and drawing upon three interconnected traditions:  (1) the lore of the Nemoralia, or Festival of Torches sacred to the goddess Diana Trivia at Lake Nemi, (2) the Feast of Hecate, and (3) the Feast of the Assumption traditions within the Catholic Church.

You see, after Pope Gregory directed local priests to find ways of incorporating pagan feasts and traditions into the liturgical year of the church to smooth the road of conversion, the Catholic Church incorporated many of the ideas around the Nemoralia celebration into the Feast of the Assumption, celebrating the end of Mother Mary’s life upon Earth and bodily assumption into heaven where she reigns as Queen of Heaven and Queen of the Angels — a role Pagan lore associates with Hecate, whose power over the three realms of earth, sky, and sea evolved through time to give her storm associations as well.  In fact, many modern practitioners believe Hecate’s Feast Day on August 13 is modeled after an ancient festival in her honor to protect the ripening harvest from violent storms.

So join us as Christopher pulls the threads of these interwoven traditions to explore the mysteries to be found where the river meets the sea in the darkness and the lightning flashes its voice. Learn how to sink deep into that darkness and then rise back up to the heavens, before returning again to the Earth, traveling through light and lightning.  We will seek the vision of the sea and storm to learn the mysteries of the eye within, for in this journey, we seek a harvest not of grains or grapes, but of seeds of illumination to grow within us.

The session will include a lecture and a short, moderated Q&A session followed by a visionary working into the Mysteries of Nemoralia, the Assumption and the Harvest of Trivia.
