Happy New Year!?

20172017 is upon us!  Some of us are happy to bid 2016 farewell and welcome the arrival of the New Year with open arms.  Others of us may be feel like we’re being dragged kicking and screaming into 2017.    Either way it’s coming — so what can we do to make it the best it can be??  We have some ideas for you, starting with closing out 2016 right.  HBS is closed New Year’s Day, but we ARE open New Year’s Eve, so before you go out to begin your celebrating (or mourning as the case may be), consider these:

  • New Year’s Eve Tarot Readings   Want some insights into what 2017 might hold in store for you?  Come get a New Year’s Eve Tarot Reading w/ visiting reader, Chazrick Sidhe.  Just $15 for 15 minutes of guidance and insight.  If you’ve never had a reading with Chaz, you’ll want to take this opportunity, so give us a call and reserve the time slot of your choice.
  • What’s on Your Bucket List?  We’d originally planned to spend our Saturday morning Coffee & Conversation on New Year’s Eve talking about New Year’s Resolutions — but let’s face it, resolutions always have that ‘grit-your-teeth-and-DO-it-already-dammit’ feel to them … with deadlines and failures and baggage.  Who needs ’em?!?   On the other hand Bucket Lists are our ‘WANNA-DO’s’ and we firmly believe in paying more attention to those.  So give some thought to what’s on your list and come join the discussion!  You may get some great new additions to your list or your list may inspire someone else.  Either way, it’s bound to be an interesting and uplifting discussion.

And once the New Year has officially begun, we have some new events that can help you make the best of it.

 Coming up in January, 2017:

  • Embrace Your Psychic Abilities:  If you’re an empath struggling to shut out everyone else’s thoughts & emotions, have spirits showing up you don’t know what to do with, or just know things you don’t know how you know (!?),  you may want to check out this new 8-month apprenticeship with psychic and shaman, Paula Curry starting January 10.  The class meets the second Tuesday of each month, 6:15-8:15, continuing through October, with monthly payment plans available.
  • Crystals for Manifestation:  Want a boost in making that Bucket List come true? Crystal Healer and founder of Imaginetics Quantum Crystal Healing, Lynn Wobig will be teaching another in her popular Crystals 101 series on January 14.  This time she’ll be focusing on  Stones for Manifestation.  (And no, you don’t need to have attended the previous classes in the series to participate.  Each class is a stand-alone workshop.)  ‘Cause who of us can’t use all the help we can get??
  • Taking Care of YOU:  Seems like ‘YOU’ is the last person you have time to care for, right?  But then there’s that old “secure your own oxygen mask first’ adage, which does have a lot of truth to it.  How about you let us give you a hand on that?
    •  Supporting Your Chakra System.   Adrian Campbell can give you lots of good tips on keeping your chakra system in top shape in this workshop the afternoon of January 7.   Know nothing about chakras?  No worries! Come by a little bit earlier for the 10:30 am Coffee & Conversation that same day and sit in on a conversation with Adrian on Personal Energy Fields & Chakras.  You can always decide to stick around for the workshop afterward, if you find yourself intrigued and eager to learn more.  (But just a suggestion — go ahead and set the afternoon aside because after you hear her talk?  You’re gonna wanta take her workshop.  Just sayin’!)
    • Boosting Your Winter Wellness.   Connie Jacoby, the founder and wise woman behind Wise Woman Botanicals is back with another workshop on working with essential oils.   This time, she’ll be talking specifically about how to use essential oils to battle winter colds and crud.  Sunday afternoon, January 22.  (Connie is always a hit, and if you’ve not met her yet, you’ll quickly find out why.  The lady knows her STUFF and is entertaining to boot, so what’s not to love?  Mark your calendar!)
    • Yoga Nidra, Yoga Therapy, Tai Chi.  The usual awesome stuff.  Still available.  Still worth it.
  • Spiritual Growth:  Looking for a way to deepen your spiritual practice and connection this year?
    • Gnostic Texts:  Ancient Wisdom, Personal Truth — Nancy Tanner-Thies will offer an Introduction to the Gnostic Texts on Sunday, January 8 at 1:30 pm,  followed by a weekly contemplative study of several of these ancient texts and the wisdom they still hold for our lives today.   The term ‘Gnostic Texts’ is often used to refer to writings created around the same time as many of the books of the New Testament, but omitted from the version of the Bible officially approved by the Council of Nicea in 300 AD.    The weekly study series will meet on Thursday evenings 6-7:30 pm, beginning January 19, and run for 6 weeks.  Make plans to attend the Intro lecture and then see if you feel called to delve deeper into the topic with Nancy.
    • The Qabala Tree of Life Weekend Intensive — Rachael Mueller of St. Louis will be back, this time teaching a two-day weekend intensive on the Qabala and the Tree of Life.  If you’ve struggled with studying this ancient, but still oh-so-relevant (!!) system on your own (and yes, it CAN be confusing when you first tackle it!) or if you’ve never been exposed to the system at all, but want to know more about it, this weekend is for you.  Rachael is an excellent teacher who can make the most complex stuff easily accessible and understandable — and once you get an understanding of the Tree of Life model, you will be amazed how often its concepts show up in your daily life!!
    • Building a Meditation Practice.   How many times have you thought that you really OUGHT to learn how to meditate?  Well no more reason to put it off!  Hypnotherapist, shaman, (and HBS Affiliate) Candace Kundert will be starting a new Sunday afternoon series on Meditation on January 8.  The group will meet 4:30-6 pm every other Sunday for a total of 6 sessions.
    • Righteous Rituals  Whether you’re  a solitary pagan practitioner crafting your own personal rituals, working with a small circle of friends planning your own Sabbat celebrations, or a priest or priestess in your tradition planning for coven gatherings or public rituals, this crash course on ritual-planning may just what the spirits ordered!  Taz Mma Chance, High Priestess of the First Temple of the Craft of Wica and community pagan leader will be teaching the workshop on Saturday, Jan 21, 1-3 pm.  Always more to learn and great ideas to steal!
    • Imbolc / Candlemas Ritual Celebration — We hold open seasonal celebrations here at HBS, attuning ourselves to the turning of the Wheel of the Year with ritual gatherings.  Most of them are drawn from Celtic traditions but folks of other traditions and paths will often find familiar overtones or elements, as so many varied traditions have borrowed from one another and blended together over the passage of time.   This celebration, held the evening of Sunday, January 29 starting at 6:30, is probably where Groundhog Day came from!   Both are times to pause and peer hopefully into the wintry night for reassurance that Spring does in fact lie ahead, buried beneath the snow though it may be.    So maybe we should call it our Imbolc / Candlemas / Ground Hog Day Ritual Celebration?
  • Conversation:  Or do you just want to gather together with people interested in talking about IMPORTANT and INTERESTING stuff — like the meaning of life and why and how we exist in this Universe??  Yeah, us too!!  Check out your choices here:
    • Saturday Morning Coffee & Conversation:  Already mentioned it above, but it bears mentioning more than once.  Every Saturday morning at 10:30, we host a Coffee & Conversation.  We provide the coffee, folks contribute goodies, and everyone who wants to, contributes to the conversation.  (Yes, you CAN show up and just listen, too.) We have a topic of the day and a facilitator of the discussion to pose interesting questions and make sure we don’t ramble entirely off track.  This month we’re talking about:
      • Personal Energy Fields & Chakras, Jan 7
      • Vision Quests, Jan 14
      • Reiki, Jan 21
      • Tarot, Jan 28
    • The Tao Discussion Group— facilitated by the ever-welcoming Nicole Wei, you don’t need any previous experience with or understanding of The Tao to come join this group discussing this ancient text and its applicability to our daily lives.  They meet the 1st & 3rd Sundays of the month, 2-4 pm, but because we’re closed on the 1st this month, they’ll only be meeting on January 15 this month.  Back to their regular twice-monthly scheduled in Feb.
    • Science & Metaphysics Discussion Group —  This is the place for those of you looking for a spiritual practice that appeals to mind and intellect as well as to heart and soul.   Facilitated by Dr. Kay Fair, the group meets at 4:30 pm on the 3rd Sunday of each month.
    • Hearthfires Pagan Meet-Up Group — a gathering of followers of pagan paths in the mid-MO area, you’ll find them at HBS the second Tuesday of each month, 6:30-8 pm.
  • Just for Fun:  Just wanta put all the serious stuff aside and have a fun afternoon with friends??  Well, laughter IS the best medicine.  So gather them together and come make yourselves some awesome bling in one of HBS’s Jewelry-Making Workshops with Addie Clomax.  HBS provides all the tools and materials — gemstone beads and sterling silver fastenings (so we’re talking PRETTY bling here!) Addie provides all the know-how to walk you through creating your own personal brand of fab and you and your friends provide the creative camaraderie. Sunday afternoon, January 15 from 1-4 pm.  What better way to spend a wintry day??  (Well, okay, an adult beverage by the fire would be nice, too, but you can’t do that ALL winter.  So try this for a break!)
